Today’s Prayer Emphasis: Be Ready!
written by Chris Baker
The early church taught that we need to be ready for Christ’s return at any moment. In fact, this was a driving force in many of the Apostle Paul’s letters. Scripture says that Jesus will come in a flash, the twinkling of an eye. Basically, the Church will be called up into the clouds in a nanosecond! Scripture says the dead in Christ will rise first and then those still living will be called up with them in the clouds.
Are you ready for His return? Seriously! Are you ready? He could come back before you finish reading this post! Is there anything in your life right not that you would be ashamed of if Christ were to return at this moment? Is there any sin that you need to repent of? We need to get seriouse Church! This is no joke. The Church has been living in anticipation of His return for 2,000 years. 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (NIV).
How will this perspective change your daily living? What about all of the people that still do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ? Do we feel any type of urgency for them? If He really is coming soon, which Scripture says that He is, then how should this motivate us?
Lord, speak to us! Prepare us! Get a hold of our hearts. Place an overwhelming desire in our hearts for your second coming! Lord, give us a burden for those who do not know you! Jesus, we desire that everyone would come to repentance and accept you as their Lord and Savior!! Maranatha!
36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
