Tuesday Prayer Emphasis: The Dying!
written by Chris Baker
Did you know that over 155,000 people, on average, die every day? How many of those people do you think had a relationship with Jesus? Jesus said in Matthew 7:13, “For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (NIV). According to this passage, the majority of that 155,000 didn’t make it to heaven! Thousands of people are dying and going to hell every day. Does this alarm you?
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (John 3:16-17).
We can have salvation in Jesus Christ…but how are people supposed to know that if they are not told? Whose responsibility is it to tell them? If you consider yourself to be a Christian, then the answer is you. Listen to the words of Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20, “then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (NIV).
I encourage you to join me in prayer today for the dying. Pray for the Church to take the Bible seriously and to share the Gospel. I am heavily convicted by this post!!! I am failing miserably at making disciples. People are dying every day and I have an active part to play in their salvation. The very Spirit of God dwells within in me. Jesus promised to be with me as I make disciples…so what more do I need?
Pray Church! Pray for a fire to start within your heart for the lost. We simply need to share the Gospel and allow the Holy Spirit to convict. Our part is to tell them about Jesus and the Holy Spirit will introduce them to Jesus!
If this post has convicted you as it did me, then pray this prayer with me: Jesus, I come before you today with a burdened heart. I realize that thousands of people will die today and suffer for all eternity because they never knew you. Lord, who needs to hear your Gospel today? Place them in my path and give me every opportunity to reach them! Father, please place a spark within me that will ignite into a raging fire for the lost. Change my heart today. Change my heart…In Jesus Name! Amen.
