I Will Not Be Shaken

I Will Not Be Shaken
written by Chris Baker

What does it mean to be shaken? Are you someone that is easily shaken? Perhaps your plans get changed, someone is not responding to you, someone offends you, you get the slightest ache or pain, you fill in the blank. Do you find these scenarios and others are robbing you of your peace and causing you to be shaken? What sort of daily encounters are rocking your world? In Psalm 15, David says that we do not have to be shaken. How can this be?

Take a moment and read Psalm 15 by clicking here. David asks how one may come into and dwell in the Lord’s presence. He then goes on to describe our relationship with our neighbor. This Psalm has a striking resemblance to the life of Jesus. Remember, Jesus said that He did not come to abolish the law but fulfill the law. Let’s place this Psalm into the context of Christ’s life.

David asks how one may come into and dwell in the Lord’s presence? We can enter into His presence through Jesus! Jesus says in John 14:6, “no one comes to the Father except through Me.” Hebrews describes Jesus as our intercessor (Hebrews 7). Meaning, He stands in the presence of God and presents our requests to Him. If we have a relationship with Jesus, then God views us through His Son. Imagine two people. Jesus is [A] and you are [B]. [A] stands directly in front of [B], so that, all that can be seen is [A]. That is what happens when we have a relationship with Jesus Christ. God can look on you with delight because He views you through His Son. That is why Jesus is known as our high priest and intercessor.

We can also dwell in the presence of the Lord!!! According to 1 John 4:13-15, “no one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God” (NIV). God has given us His Holy Spirit, through Christ’s death and resurrection, to indwell the heart of every Believer! Therefore, we can live in Christ and He in us. We can continually dwell in the presence of the Lord because He lives within our hearts!

I would encourage you to read Matthew 5 and compare it to this Psalm. Jesus also said in Matthew 22:37-39, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (NIV). We should seek to love God with every fiber of our being, then our walk will be blameless. We will do what is right and speak truth from the heart (Psalm 15:2). If we are truly loving all those we come into contact with, then we will not slander them, intentionally wrong them, despise them, lie to them or take advantage of them (Psalm 15:3-5).

If we love God with every fiber of our being, truly love all those we come into contact with as we love ourselves, then we will not be shaken! Whatever is said to you or done to you, whether intentionally or unintentionally, you will view it in relation to these two commandments. How is my response loving God and this person? If I truly love God and this person then I care about them more than this slight offense. If I believe that God loves me and died for me then I believe He is big enough to handle this circumstance. If my plans get changed, I acknowledge that God’s ways are higher than my ways (Isaiah 55:9). Place all of life into the context of truly loving God and others, and you will not be shaken!
